Her childhood was enriched with reoccurring episodes of artistic accomplishments, from winning her first essay contest in the 3rd grade, to having her first poem, ‘Run’ published at 12 years old. With the freedom to unearth her artistic capabilities, she continually appreciated her family for giving her the resources and support to express herself through writing and drawing.
With no prior experience in the entertainment industry, she used her bright and ambitious persona to land herself a job working for Hot 92.3 Jamz in 2001 as a Marketing Team Personality. Her infectious enthusiasm and flair for enhancing social interactions with listeners made her a well-loved figure within the local radio community.
Shay is a member of a local program that focuses on feeding and clothing homeless patrons in Los Angeles’ Skid Row district, and is no stranger to volunteerism, as she has previously contributed her time and services to the non-profit organization School on Wheels, and 89.9 KCRW.
With a vivid imagination and a passion for visual arts, Shay Fresh launched Images of Hue Photography, a portrait and lifestyle photography company. Her desire to contribute to her community through the visual arts was the motivation to fulfill the calling. Her first self-published title, Black Love: Challenging the Status Quo was the next phase of her creative process, as she felt the need to write a body of work that spoke to her community and contribute to its empowerment. These ventures are only a fraction of the project developments on her horizon.
Shay finds solitude and happiness in elevating and empowering her community through diverse mediums of communication, and enjoys quality with her network of family and friends. She currently resides in Los Angeles, CA with her husband and fellow author, Sadiki Bakari, and their daughter, Satiah. Her childhood was enriched with reoccurring episodes of artistic accomplishments, from winning her first essay contest in the 3rd grade, to having her first poem, ‘Run’ published at 12 years old.
